It was a dream. Cuba is unique, beautiful, decaying, vibrant, Nostalgic and optimistic. The Cuban people understand the importance of hospitality for their economy but they come across as genuine. Rhonda Slater knows Cuba and the tour she arranged for us was superb: fine hotels and restaurants, off the beaten path surprises, lectures and cultural events. She introduced us to friends she has made on the island. Our Cuban guide and driver became part of our group.
I felt safe every minute. Our accommodations were modern (in Cienfuegos as modern as it gets, in Havana 5 star by my standards) and immaculate. We drove long distances through the country and saw the real Cuba. Everyone I had the opportunity to speak to, whether they spoke English or not, was happy to spend time with me.
